What is a Community Foundation?A Community Foundation is a local non-profit organization that empowers donors from all walks of life. Whether you are an experienced philanthropist looking for a meaningful way to share your assets in your home community, or just someone looking to make a difference, a Community Foundation can help. Schoolteachers, firefighters and postal workers have all begun or contributed to the many funds at the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan. The Community Foundation then manages those funds, whether they are simple or complicated, helps them to grow, and then distributes them as they are needed back into the community. The Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan is run by professionals with a broad expertise of local issues and needs. We partner with professional advisors to maximize our effectiveness, as well. The service donors receive is highly personalized and tailored to each individual donor’s charitable and financial interests. Donors invest in the causes they believe in most: We connect people who care with causes that matter. Community Foundations can accept a wide variety of assets, and can facilitate even the most complicated forms of giving. Often, for instance, memorial scholarships are established, but become burdensome to maintain. A Community Foundation is the perfect place to re-establish such a fund. Community Foundations offer maximum tax advantages for most gifts under federal law, and can often multiply the impact of gift dollars by pooling them with other gifts and grants.
