This is our seventh year at the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan, and we are excited about what has happened this past year. But even more, we are looking forward to the coming year.
Some of you may have noticed our name change this year. We have grown and are expanding the Foundation to assist the Sullivan County community. Our name has changed to the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan to reflect this new direction. This is an opportunity to propel philanthropy to a new level in Sullivan County, as individuals discover that giving in the county has become easier and more organized.
The reality is that it is expensive to set up a private foundation. Donors are required to meet regulatory requirements, comply with federal guidelines and make appropriate IRS filings, among a myriad of other details. It is often difficult to determine what charities should receive grants. We are here to assist donors in carrying out their charitable wishes, while relieving them of the administrative burdens.
In the seven years since the inception of the Community Foundation, almost 75 permanent charitable funds have been established by individuals, businesses and organizations. Those funds have provided over $877,000 in grants and scholarships.
The growth of the Community Foundation since it began is a clear demonstration of the commitment our community has to ensuring its future.
As we look forward to the coming year, we want to thank all of those who have been part of our work, whether through your financial support, by volunteering, or by establishing a fund. You have made an investment that will impact our community forever.
