SCHOLARSHIP AND MEMORIAL FUNDS
Chester Kiwanis Scholarship Fund – was created by Chester Kiwanis for Chester Academy students. Grants will be awarded to college bound freshmen only who meets certain GPA, educational and other requirements.
Ian Bennett/Situation Cares Memorial Fund
This memorial fund was created by the friends and family of Ian Bennett. This scholarship
will be given to high school students in Orange County who demonstrate a passion for the arts,
in the form of design, music and/or performing arts.
Joshua Stamm Scholarship Fund
This scholarship fundwas created by family and friends of Joshua to honor and memorialize Joshua who was an Eagle Scout with Troop 63 in Goshen, a member of the 105th Air National Guard's Young Champions, an avid skier, music fan and baseball player. Joshua participated in countless wheelchair road races, including several Orange Classics and The Special Olympics at West Point. A scholarship will be awarded annually to the Goshen High School graduate who demonstrates qualities of determination, caring, compassion, and an independent spirit, and who, despite a disability, was able to excel and will attend college.
Erin Ortiz Memorial Scholarship Fund
The scholarship fund was created by the family and friends of Erin to honor and
memorialize her. A scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Goshen High School who plans to pursue higher education and has excelled both academically and athletically.
Keith B. Hayes Foundation - through the Keith B. Hayes Foundation, a scholarship will be awarded to students at Ramapo College of New Jersey who are afflicted with similar medical and physical challenges as Keith. Grants will be made to nonprofit organizations that conduct research related to muscular and skeletal myopathy, muscular dystrophy, as well as heart diseases. It is also anticipated that grants will be made to support Rockland Independent Living Center in Nanuet, New York and Jawonio in New City, New York.
The Wallkill East Rotary Scholarship Fund - This fund was created by the Wallkill East Rotary Club. The Fund will distribute scholarships to graduating high school students who live in the Town of Wallkill and have an expectation to succeed.
The Rotary Club of Middletown Golden Gear Educational Fund - was created by the Rotary Club of
Middletown. Grants will be awarded annually to students in area high schools and colleges who have overcome a significant obstacle/s in their life/lives, and who have demonstrated real progress in turning their life/lives around.
John Mazur Memorial Scholarship Fund
This fund awards scholarships to students at Valley Central High School who are taking classes and pursuing an occupation or vocation in the field of agriculture; including horticulture, veterinary medicine, landscape architecture, environmental engineering, forestry, agribusiness, botany, or biology.

Fund Description: Created to celebrate the life of Ian C. Bennett who tragically lost his life in an accident. The criteria for this scholarship fund is still being developed.
Michelle R. Bratton Memorial Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created to celebrate the life of Michelle R. Bratton who tragically lost her life on September 11, 2001. This fund provides a scholarship to a graduating student from Pine Bush High School who, like Michelle, is a member of the National Honor Society and who is also either an athlete on the women’s swimming and diving team or a member of the chorus.
Scott F. Coen Memorial Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created to celebrate the life of Scott F. Coen who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident. This fund provides a scholarship to a graduating student from Pine Bush High School who is planning a two- or four-year college course of study in criminal justice and has participated in an athletic program at Pine Bush High School.
Cornwall Alumni Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by Cornwall Mayor Edward Moulton to provide a scholarship to a graduating student of Cornwall High School who has by his or her conduct exemplified community services.
Corinne Feller Memorial Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by Corinne’s parents, Ron and Anita Feller, to celebrate the life of Corinne, who passed away at age 18 from ovarian cancer. This fund provides a scholarship to a graduating student from Valley Central High School of high moral character who will be attending an institution of higher learning, and who, like Corinne, was an active member of at least one interscholastic sports team through his/her senior year, demonstrated leadership skills, and actively advocates concern for the less fortunate.
Firefighter Thomas J. Foley Memorial Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created to celebrate the life of Firefighter Tom Foley who tragically lost his life on September 11, 2001. This fund provides scholarships to dependent children of either active or retired FDNY firefighters or officers.
John D. Garrison Memorial Scholarship Fund (WSB)
Fund Description: Established by Walden Savings Bank and friends of John D. Garrison as a lasting tribute to the former President of Walden Savings Bank. This $500 scholarship is awarded in each of seven school districts: Newburgh, Pine Bush, Valley Central, Cornwall, Washingtonville, Wallkill, and Marlboro to students who are of good character, exhibit community involvement, and be service-oriented who plans to study Business or Finance.
Jonathan George Memorial Fund
Fund Description: Created by Jonathan’s parents to celebrate the life of their son who was a promising musician, and who died suddenly in early 2006 at the age of 23. This fund will provide a scholarship to a graduating student at Washingtonville High School who plans to major in the fine arts, performing arts, graphic arts, or visual arts, and displays upstanding moral character and a willingness to help others at all times. Grants to Goshen Presbyterian Church’s Memorial Garden and the American Heart Association will may also be made from this fund.
Caitlin M. Hammaren Memorial Foundation
Fund Description: Inspired by Caitlin’s love of the Arts and created following Caitlin’s senseless death on the morning of April 16, 2007 at Virginia Tech, this Fund will make grants in the area of arts education and arts and cultural programs.
Oscar B. Greenleaf Memorial Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created through a bequest, this fund will memorialize the name of Oscar B. Greenleaf forever through scholarships that are awarded annually at Port Jervis High School.
Adam H. Janitz Memorial Fund
Fund Description: Created to celebrate the life of Adam Janitz who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident. The criteria for this scholarship fund is still being developed.
Abraham, and Judith, and Jonathon Kopald Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by the Kopald family in memory of Abraham and Judith, and Jonathon Kopald, this fund awards a scholarship at O’Neill High School in the Highland Falls School District.
Spencer McLaughlin Fund
Fund Description: Created by friends, family, and colleagues of Orange County Legislator Spencer McLaughlin in honor of his long-term commitment to community service in Orange County.
Middletown Rotary Golden Gear Education Fund
Fund Description: Created to provide awards to students attending an area high school or college who have overcome a significant obstacle in their life and who have demonstrated real progress in turning their life around.
Newburgh Enlarged City School District Fund
Fund Description: Created by the Board of Trustees of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, this is an umbrella scholarship fund for the school district that will facilitate the establishment of future scholarships for the benefit of the school district.
Jennifer Newton Memorial Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created to celebrate the life of Jennifer Newton, this fund awards a scholarship at Middletown High School to a student pursuing a career in creative writing at a part-time or full-time accredited college or university.
David E. Phillips Music Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by friends and family to honor the life of David Phillips, this scholarship will make awards to Music students in the Middletown Central School District.
Pine Bush Alumni Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by RJ Smith, an alumnus of Pine Bush High School and President of the Community Foundation, to provide a scholarship for a graduating student from Pine Bush High School.
Michael Purcell Memorial Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by colleagues of Washingtonville teacher Mike Purcell who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. This fund will award scholarships to the graduating student at both Washingtonville High School and Valley Central High School who is ranked #9 and is planning to pursue higher education.
Anthony C. Quinn Memorial Fund
Fund Description: Created by family and friends of Anthony C. Quinn, a beloved teacher, swim coach, and alum of the Warwick Valley High School who passed away tragically from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. This fund awards a scholarship to a graduating student from Warwick Valley High School who has demonstrated consistent, outstanding, high school achievements during his/her four consecutive years of high school.
Rescue 3 Fallen Heroes 9/11 Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by September 11th widows and family members in honor and memory of FDNY firefighters Thomas Foley, Thomas Gambino, Ray Meisenheimer, Christopher Blackwell, Don Regan, Gerry Schrang, and Joseph Spor who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001. This fund awards a scholarship to children of any Rescue 3 firefighter who are survivors of a qualified disaster, with special consideration given to children of firefighters who were assigned to Rescue 3 on September 11, 2001.
Dorothy Bronson Wicker Re Memorial Art Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created in memory of this beloved artist, writer, teacher and historian by her daughter, Sandy Leonard, who is a board member of the Community Foundation. This fund will award a scholarship to a student with artistic talent graduating from Monroe-Woodbury High School.
RJM Superstar Fund
Fund Description: Created by the family and friends of Richard J. Mohl, a “superstar” of a teacher, to honor his life and legacy. This fund makes grants or awards to locally-based arts and education programs and projects or to students attending schools in the Bethel, CT public school system.
John Christopher Smith Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by the family of John Christopher Smith, who tragically lost his life in an automobile accident, to celebrate John Christopher’s life and honor his memory. This fund is part of the Pine Bush Alumni Scholarship Fund. The scholarship awards a scholarship to a graduating student from Pine Bush High School who plans to attend a four-year college, and who, like John, is planning a course of study in Civil Engineering, Land Use Planning, Real Estate, Surveying or Business.
Jim Taravella Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created to celebrate the life of beloved teacher and coach Jim Taravella, a Monroe- Woodbury teacher who passed away suddenly, the criteria for this scholarship is still being developed.
Rudolph Vallet Memorial Science and Education Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by the family of beloved Chester Union Free School District Rudolph Vallet, this fund awards a scholarship at Chester Academy to a student pursuing the field of Science or Education.
Wallkill East Rotary Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created to provide awards to students who live in the Town of Wallkill, have an expectation of succeeding in life, and plan to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college or technical school in the United States.
Washingtonville 5 WTC Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by family friends, neighbors, and fellow firefighters, this scholarship fund was established to honor the five FDNY firefighters who lived in Washingtonville (Dennis Devlin, Glenn Perry, Mark Whitford, Gerald Nevins, and Robert Hamilton, who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001. This fund awards scholarships to five (5) students graduating from Washingtonville High School.
John P. Williamson Memorial Fund
Fund Description: Created to celebrate the life of John P. Williamson, an FDNY firefighter who tragically lost his life on September 11, 2001. This fund makes a scholarship to one young man and one young woman who are graduating from Warwick Valley High School.
Frederick B. and Dorothy A. Wildfoerster Fund
Fund Description: Created in memory of the Wildfoersters to award scholarships to local honorably discharged veterans interested in pursuing a degree in architecture or a related field.
Isadore “Stitch” Wittenberg Pine Bush Alumni Scholarship Fund
Fund Description: Created by the family of Isadore “Stitch” Wittenberg, to honor his memory, this fund provides an award to a graduating student athlete from Pine Bush High School who demonstrates civic duty and responsibility of the highest degree on and off the athletic field.
MHS AoF/AoIT Scholarship Endowment Fund

HudsonValleyTuskegee Airmen Foundation – This Fund will distribute scholarships to outstanding graduating high school students. Recipients will be selected through the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen.

Fund Description: Established by retiring Orange County Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Graham Skea in 2005 to support the Orange County Arboretum.
Washingtonville 5 WTC Firefighters Memorial Fund
Fund Description: Created by family, friends, neighbors, and fellow firefighters, this memorial fund was originally established to design, construct, erect and dedicate a monument as a memorial to the five New York City firemen residents of the Washingtonville area: Dennis Devlin, Glenn Perry, Mark Whitford, Gerald Nevins, and Robert Hamilton, who gave their lives in the line of duty at the World Trade Center disaster on September 11, 2001 in New York City. The Fund is now used for the upkeep, maintenance, repair and preservation of the monument and site.
